In the two years it takes to complete this subject, students will need to be able to apply their knowledge in creative ways and understand how certain maths principles can be applied in real-world contexts.
The course covers a variety of topics such as calculus, linear algebra, discrete mathematics, statistics, optimisation and dynamical systems. Through these topics, students will also learn how to use technology such as graphing calculators and computer software packages to further their understanding of their studies. Students should also expect to study game theory which focuses on analysis strategies used in competitive situations.
To ensure success within SACE Specialised Maths, it is important for students to dedicate sufficient time for studying by attending classes regularly and setting up additional weekly study sessions with friends or tutors. Additionally, using past exam papers as well as other resources such as textbooks and online practice tests can help build confidence for the subject’s final assessments.
